CHAMELEON
DANCE COMPANY
 
 
 
The Chameleon Dance Company was established by Jojo Lucila Ida Beltran Lucila, with the vision that its dancers be proficient in the different styles of dance. Thus, the inspiration to name it after the animal, chameleon. The dancers are trained in modern ballet, jazz and classical ballet. Believing that performance is a vital aspect of a dancers’ training, its dancers have participated in several festivals, aside from its own concerts-like the Balletfest ’90, The First Manila Contemporary Dance Festival, International Dance Day ’92, Handog Sayaw ’93, The Second Manila Contemporary Dance Festival, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 10th Asia Track and Field Championships, Araw ng Sayaw ’94, Youth Ballet Festival, Danseries I-III of the Association of Ballet Academies, Phils., the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the First Philippine National Games, Pagpupugay, the 
 
Opening Ceremonies of the Asian Basketball Conference, a features artist in Gary Valenciano’s Move concert, The Third Contemporary Dance Festival ’95 and the Araw ng Sayaw ’96. It has also embarked on an outreach workshop and performance in Isabel and Baguio.  

With this background, the company is proud to have produced artists who have shown great promise in dance: Carlos Garcia and Manuel Malonzo, both scholars of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; Irish Abejero, apprentice of Ballet Philippines; Jun Saagundo and Irish Abejero, 1995 NCCA Dance Scholars; Eric de la Cruz and Socrates de Guia, 1995 and 1996 NCCA Dance Scholars; Michael Lopez, 1996 NCCA Dance Scholars; and Raul Alcoseba, described by critics as 1993 discovery of the year and was the featured choreographer in The Third Contemporary Festival.  

Part of the company’s goal is to invite teachers and choreographers to develop a wide range of repertoire that would showcase the dancers’ strength and versatility - like Nonoy Froilan, Edward Malagkit, Joy Coronel, Melvin Martinez, Stanley Cañete, Myra Beltran and Margie Gillis.
