BAYANG BARRIOS
Folk/Alternative singer

Bayang Barrios discovered her love for singing at the age of 4 and she has not stopped singing since. From amateur singing contest days in her native Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, Bayang went on to lounge singing in Davao City before landing the female vocalist sport in the group Joey Ayala at the Bagong Lumad. This stint brought her to concert tours around the Philippines and key cities around the world, as well as recording sessions for Joey Ayala, Jess Santiago and Gary Granada. When Bagong Lumad disbanded, Bayang went on hibernation to think over her options.

When Bayang Barrios re-entered the music scene as a solo performer, the music industry responded by giving her the 1996 CMMA Lorenzo Ruiz Award for Bayang Makulay, her debut album. Joining the 1996 Metropop for the first time, Bayang became a finalist together with collaborator Mike Villegas for the song Bagong Umaga. In September 1996, she  represented the country in the Hanoi-ASEAN Golden Vocalists

Festival where she was a recipient of the top prize, the Hanoi-ASEAN Golden Vocalists Festival Award.

Gary Granada and the year 1997 gave Bayang her first hit single, Pag Nananalo ang Ginebra, basketball fandom’s anthem for the most popular ballclub in the Philippines.

Bayang played the role of the Kadre, a composite character in the original Filipino musicale "Lean" also written by M. Granada last September at the UP Theater.

Bayang Barrios is also set to release her second album, Darating Din Tayo. The title cut signifies a promise of things to come for this determined woman. As she claims a widening niche for herself, the contemporary music scene is offered Bayang Barrios: vocalist, musician, performer, songwriter.
